Exhibition Title: 'İrtibata İntibak'

(Adaptation to Relation)

Exhibition Subtext: Reflections of 'How Now Becomes Then' performance's traces left on space and time.

The exhibition is an adaptation of the contemporary dance performance 'How Now Becomes Then', with fragments of the performance captured in Eminönü, Istanbul, a place of significant importance in the city's historical peninsula. The cultural, social, and historical richness of the area contains traces from different eras, creating a sense of time manifesting itself through multiple dimensions. The adaptation of our understanding of time from a linear plane to a spiral motion is one of the starting points of the exhibition. This means that what has happened in the past still manifests itself within space. The exhibition explores our perception of time and its connection to Eminönü's ancient history, with its texture and value added over time.

Based on the concept above, the exhibition features 11 screens, each showcasing different video compositions filmed in environments associated with Eminönü. The content of these videos, shot in various urban spaces, consists of excerpts adapted from the contemporary dance performance. They are supported by a map of the area to guide the audience through each location featured in the videos. This creates an interactive experience for viewers to locate where each video takes place on the map as they walk through the exhibition.

The nature of performance is inherently fleeting, existing only in that moment and place, witnessed by those present, with only its memory remaining once that moment passes. In contrast, film is a medium that captures these fleeting moments and preserves them in history. Antique carpets and floor lamps used in the performance will be integrated into the video compositions in various forms, creating a cohesive whole that will also be physically placed within the exhibition space. This juxtaposition allows the audience to see these objects in their digital form and beside them, enhancing the thematic connection.

To summarize, the exhibition researches the relationship between the city and the body, and this relationship's connection to time and space, inviting us to contemplate the traces we leave behind.
